This guide will help you select the correct seeding method and lane/order assignment method. The seeding method example below is based on three (3) heats/groups with a total of 24 athletes (except for the specific indoor method). The lane/order assignment example is based on 8 or 9 lanes/athletes.

If you select the Qualifying result as the basis for the seeding (i.e., seeding the final based on semi-finals), then keep in mind that athletes are ranked based on the following rules: 


  1. Fastest heat winner (Q)
  2. 2nd fastest heat winner (Q)
  3. 3rd fastest heat winner, etc. (Q)
  4. Fastest 2nd place (Q)
  5. 2nd fastest 2nd place (Q)
  6. 3rd fastest 2nd place, etc. (Q)

Please note: The Lane preference field will be ignored when the World Athletics - Straight, World Athletics - 200m, World Athletics - 400m/800m lane assignment methods are selected.
