Do you want to make your race announcements more interesting? With Roster Athletics and our integration with the RACE RESULT timing system, you can set up a unique announcer overview that displays athletes crossing a selected timing point.
The guide is divided into the following sections:
- Configuring an announcer point in RACE RESULT
- Configuring an announcer point in Roster
- Announcer overview
Configuring an announcer point in RACE RESULT
To use the announcer overview, you need at least one timing point configured in RACE RESULT. You can use the same point you already use for collecting times or prepare a separate location only for the announcer (e.g., 50m before the finish line to announce athletes who will shortly finish the race).
You will find all the information about configuring timing points in RACE RESULT in the RACE RESULT integration guide.
Configuring an announcer point in Roster
Go to the Schedule page to enable the announcer overview for the race. Click the three-dot icon next to the event, select Chip timing and Enable splits & chip timing (you can also access this from the event options in the start list and results views). Here, you can define all the timing points (Timing tab; read more in the RACE RESULT integration guide) and configure the announcer overview (Announcer warning tab).
Open the Announcer warning tab, click the Add an announcer point button and add the following information:
- Type (not editable) - announcer warning,
- Timing points - the exact name of the timing point used in RACE RESULT,
- Custom label (optional) - add a short label that can help find the correct location of the announcer timing point when using more than one announcer warning (e.g., Lap 1 or Finish Line).
When you have added all announcer points, click the Save button.
Announcer overview
Announcers can access the overview if they have permission to read the meet/meeting. See more about the permissions in the Permission to edit a meet/meeting guide.
To open the announcer overview with chip readings, go to the results view of the relevant event (in the organizer/organiser platform), click the options menu icon and select Announcer overview.
The view will display the last 25 chip readings for the selected timing point, with the newest readings always on top. The list will refresh automatically when a new chip reading appears.
