At the bottom of this guide, you can download a spreadsheet containing all age groups available in the Roster Athletics system (last update: October 23, 2025).
The file includes several separate sheets divided according to the available tables:
- General
- World Athletics

- United States (USATF)
Each sheet includes information about the age group name, code, category, profile, range, and whether the age group is relative to the cutoff or competition start date.
Placing athletes in the correct age groups
Depending on how age group verification is set up, and which age groups the organiser has selected (read more in the Set up a competition guide), the athlete will be assigned to an age group according to the criteria below.
There are three scenarios:
- An athlete belongs to a single age group.
- An athlete belongs to two or more overlapping age groups.
- An athlete falls into a gap between age groups.
Overlap (Case B)
When overlapping age groups exist, the athlete is placed in the first age group from the list, prioritised in the following order:
- Age group with a name (e.g. named age groups are prioritised higher than ranges).
- Age group with a narrower range.
- Age group with a broader range.
- Senior age group.
For example, if an organiser has enabled M40 (40–44) and 40-49 age groups, then a 41-year-old would be placed in the M40 age group.
Gap between age groups (Case C)
If an athlete falls into a gap between the age groups, they are allocated to the nearest age group:
- Non-master's age groups (e.g., Youth): automatically allocated to the nearest higher (older) age group, towards Senior.
- Masters: automatically allocated to the nearest lower (younger) age group, towards Senior.
For example, if an organiser has enabled U16 (14–15) and U20 (18–19) age groups, a 16-year-old would be placed in the U20 age group.
Importing a CSV file
If you want to import athletes using the CSV file, you can add Auto to the AgeGroup column to automatically assign athletes to the age group based on their date/year of birth or use the age group's code from the file. Remember to enable all relevant age groups in the competition details before the import. Read more in the Add athletes from a CSV file guide.
